Q:  How much does it cost to rent?
A:  With UniversityBooksOnline.com there are no monthly subscription fees. Every book has a specific rental fee; this fee is dependent on the ISBN. The average rental price on UniversityBooksOnline.com offers a savings of 75-85% off the publishers suggested list price! 

In order to insure that books are returned your debit or credit card will be authorized for the full replacement cost of the book plus the 30% late fee based on the rental duration.  Please keep in mind that we will only authorize (hold) the amount until the book is returned.

Examples:
Biology (7th Edition) is listed at $158.67. Rent it on UniversityBooksOnline.com for $71.40. A 56% savings!!  (In this specific example, the card will be authorized for $108.69 until the book is returned or purchased)

Calculus (5th Edition) is listed at $180.95. Rent it on UniversityBooksOnline.com for $62.09. A 66% savings!!  (In this specific example, the card will be authorized for $137.49 until the book is returned or purchased)

Q:  May I highlight or write in the textbooks I rent?
A:  Highlighting and writing in the textbook is OK - to a certain extent. Please be considerate while using the book. A book returned with every other line of every page highlighted or if every page is written in is overdoing it and you will be charged for the replacement cost of the book.

It's important that you try to keep the books you have rented in the best possible condition -- this way we can reuse them to help another person save money on their textbooks. We believe highlighting is a helpful study tool for others, but please use COMMON COURTESY when highlighting textbooks. You will be charged the full price of the textbook if it is returned to us in a condition that prevents us from reusing it.

Q:  How do I return my textbooks at the end of the rental period?
A:  We will automatically email you a prepaid UPS label 5 days before the date that you must drop the package off at a UPS location near you.

Please remember to pack all textbooks with care so that they are returned in the same condition they were sent to you in. All textbooks to be returned should be placed in one package. Simply tape your UniversityBooksOnline.com UPS prepaid return shipping label to your package and drop it off at any UPS location near you. This prepaid shipping label must be used to ensure delivery and proper accounting of your return.

However, if you would like to return your rented items prior to the due date, you must log on to your UniversityBooksOnline.com account, click the "Book Rentals" tab from the left-hand menu.  Lastly, select the original order that contains the rental item you would like to return.  You will then be able to generate your own UPS prepaid shipping label.  Remember, that you must include a copy of the packing slip which contains the item or items you would like to return.  You can print a copy of the packing slip from your "My Accounts" section.

Q:  Are there any late fees for textbooks that are not returned on time?
A:  If your books are not postmarked by your rental due date, you will be charged the equivalent of a 30% late fee.

If your books have still not been shipped one full week after the due date, it will be assumed that you would like to convert your rental to a purchase and the remainder of the purchase price will be charged.

Due dates will vary based on the original date of order. You can find your due date by logging into your UniversityBooksOnline.com account and viewing your rental history.

Q:  What is the length of the rental?
A:  You can rent textbooks in 30 day increments from as little as 30 days and as long as 150 days.

Q:  What is considered "GOOD CONDITION"?
A:  Books in good condition do not have any of the following:

* Stains of any sort
* Water damage
* Missing, torn or loose pages/cover
* Handwriting, excessive marking/highlighting
* Broken spine/binding
* Any other significant damage that would prevent us from renting it

If you return a book that contains any of the above you will be charged for the replacement cost of the book.

Q:  Do I need a UniversityBooksOnline.com account to rent books?
A:  Yes, creating an account only takes a minute and it's FREE! 

Q:  Do you charge sales tax?
A:  In accordance with applicable state law, we are required to charge sales tax in select states. Sales tax is applied to the total amount of the order and is based on shipment's destination state tax rate. Please be aware that you, the customer, may be required to pay use tax in certain jurisdictions in accordance with applicable state law.

Q:  Do you ship rental books outside the United States?
A:  Yes, we do rent outside the United States.

Q:  How many textbooks can I rent?
A:  The sky's the limit!  Rent on!

Q:  What are the "Terms of Use for Renting Textbooks"?
A:  Age and Residence Requirements

You must be 18 years of age or older to register for an account for use of the Website and the Service. Your account may be terminated without warning, if we believe that you are under the age of 18. All financial transactions will be processed in U.S. dollars.

End of Cycle Return

Returns must be made at the end of your rental period. We will email you with a printable prepaid UPS shipping label 5 business days before your rental is due; you must print and securely affix the label on the outside of the box and drop it off at any UPS location. You may also log into your account, look up the order number under "My Account" and print your own UPS label. By placing an order at UniversityBooksOnline.com.com, you agree to use this prepaid shipping label to ensure delivery and proper accounting of your return. Please ship your items by your due date to avoid late fees (see below).

If your return is not postmarked by your due date, you may be charged a 30% extension fee or a full replacement fee. If you are charged an extension fee and the rental is not postmarked within one week thereafter, you will be charged the remaining replacement fee. Please note that this second fee is the full replacement fee minus the rental fee; any and all late or extension fees you were previously charged will not be included in this fee.

Your due date will be based on the original date of your order and will appear on your order confirmation as well as in the "My Account" section on UniversityBooksOnline.com.

Fees

All shipping fees that the Company will charge a user will be clearly displayed during checkout. The Company will charge an additional amount to your credit card if you the user choose to buy any textbook at anytime during the rental period. By renting a textbook from the Company you agree to the storing of your credit card and or debit card information.  You also hereby acknowledge and agree that any and all additional charges that the Company deems necessary due to user misuse of the Service will be the responsibility of you the renter, including but not limited to any and all fees resulting from damages to rented textbooks, lost or stolen textbooks, late fees or auto extensions, unreturned textbooks, collections fees, certified letter fees, and/or potential legal fees. You must return your books by the deadline stated in your rental confirmation email or you will be charged a 30% late fee. You will be allowed an additional one (1) business week to return your rental, if after that period we still have not received your rental you will be charged the full replacement cost of the book minus the initial rental fee. You will NOT be given any credit for late fees charged.

 

You may cancel your account at anytime by sending an email to customer-service@universitybooksonline.com. Your account will only be cancelled and closed after you have returned all textbooks that have been rented to you and all transactions have been processed including payment of assessed penalties or the cashing of any refund check. If you do not access your account within two years, the Company has the right to cancel your account at its sole discretion.

Any person who desires to use any Service must have a confirmed credit card in order to make payments to the Company. The Company accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover. The Company reserves the right to store your credit card information and to charge it if you have not followed all of the agreements and policies set forth in this Agreement and on the Website. The Company will make reasonable efforts to process your transactions in a timely manner. You agree not to hold the Company responsible in the event the Company does not credit or debit your credit card for a period of time due to circumstances beyond the Company's control. The Company makes no guarantees regarding the processing time for charges.

 

Textbooks must be bubble wrapped to keep from being damaged when shipped. You must use the prepaid shipping label when you return your textbooks. If a textbook is sent back without proper packaging material (e.g. bubble wrap), and the textbook has visible damage, it will be your responsibility to pay for those damages.

Textbooks Must be Returned in "Good Condition" - our definition of "Good Condition" is:

Books in good condition do not have any of the following:

* Stains of any sort
* Water damage
* Missing, torn or loose pages/cover
* Handwriting, excessive marking/highlighting
* Broken spine/binding
* Any other significant damage that would prevent us from renting it

If you return a book that contains any of the above you will be charged for the replacement cost of the book.

 

Once in your possession, damage to or loss of a rental textbook is your responsibility. You will be charged damage fees at our discretion, based on the extent of damage to the textbook. If the book is lost or stolen, a replacement fee will apply. Limited highlighting and writing in your rental textbook(s) is allowed; handwriting is not allowed. Any writing or highlighting that the Company deems excessive, or that hinders the readability of the textbook, will be your responsibility and you will be charged for damages. Please follow all the Company's and Website guidelines to ensure no fees will be charged to your account.

Guarantees

We guarantee you will be happy with your rental!  If you're not simply return it within 15 days and we will replace it!  However, we do not guarantee that any CDRom's or Access Cards will come with your rental order. 

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Company, its subsidiaries, and affiliates, and their respective officers, agents, partners and employees, from and against any loss, liability, claim, or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, due to or arising out of your use of the Website or the Service in violation of this Agreement and/or arising from a breach of this Agreement and/or any breach of your representations and warranties set forth in this Agreement.

 

All notices, authorizations, and requests shall be deemed given on receipt. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey without reference to such state's choice of law provisions. The New Jersey state courts of Essex County, New Jersey or the United States District Court for New Jersey shall have exclusive jurisdiction and venue over any dispute arising out of this Agreement, and each party hereby consents to the jurisdiction and venue of such courts. If any provision of this Agreement is declared invalid, illegal or unenforceable, all remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. Nonperformance of either party, except for the making of payments, shall be excused to the extent that performance is delayed or rendered impossible by any reason where failure to perform is beyond the reasonable control of the non-performing party. This Agreement and the Company's privacy policy constitute the entire agreement between you and the Company regarding the use of the Website and the Service. The failure of the Company to exercise or enforce any right or provision of this Agreement shall not operate as a waiver of such right or provision. The section titles of this Agreement are for convenience only and have no legal or contractual effect.

 

THE COMPANY SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OF MERCHANTABILITY AND AGAINST INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE COMPANY BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER WHETHER ARISING IN CONTRACT OR TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE WEBSITE OR THE SERVICE, EVEN IF THE COMPANY BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THE USER AGREES THAT THE COMPANY'S ENTIRE LIABILITY UNDER THIS AGREEMENT SHALL NOT EXCEED, IN THE AGGREGATE, $1.00.



Q:  Returning a rental you are finished using?
A:  If you are returning a rental that you are done using for class WE pay for shipping!  All you have to do is log into your "My Account" page, find the specific order which contains the rental and click "View Return Shipping Label" next to the title.  A PDF document will appear in a separate window.  Simply print that label, securely affix it on a box and drop it off at any UPS location.  To find your nearest UPS location visit: http://www.ups.com/dropoff?loc=en_US&WT.svl=PriNav. Please remember to include a copy of your packing slip inside the box for full credit.  If you do not include a copy of the packing slip, you may be charged for the replacement cost of the rental(s). Remember, you must use this prepaid shipping label to ensure delivery and proper accounting of your return

Remember, you MUST adhere to our Rental Good Condition Policy:

Q:  Do you offer a "Satisfaction Guarantee" on rentals?
A:  Yes, if you're not satisfied in any way with the book you receive or it turns out you don't need it, just return the book within 15 days.

We will provide a full refund minus the cost of shipping.  The 15 day refund qualifying period begins the day the order was delivered.  The delivery date can be found within the original order in your "My Account" page. 

You can print a return label from your "My Accounts" page.  Please remember to include a copy of your invoice with each return, this can also be printed from your "My Accounts" page.
